LOGIMAT 2016: MANAGEMENT OF THE DISPATCH PROCESS MADE EASY

THE DISPATCH PROCESS: CHILD'S PLAY

Today's dispatch process is characterised by slow procedures, a susceptibility to errors and a whole lot of work. At LogiMAT (new Messe Stuttgart trade fair centre, 8–10 March, Hall 7/Stand 7C66), dbh Logistics IT AG (dbh) will present to interested visitors a flexible solution for simple, efficient dispatch processes. Entirely in keeping with the motto: More service, faster processes, fewer errors. Hummel AG is already convinced. By implementing Advantage Delivery, the company's dispatch operations have now become child's play.

ADVANTAGE DELIVERY BOOSTS DISPATCH PROCESSING PRODUCTIVITY AT HUMMEL AG

Hummel now has it too: With the track and trace feature, customers can track the status of their order—from data transfer to delivery of the goods—at any time. The Hummel-style web interface also provides the recipient with additional information and documents, such as packing lists etc.

Hummel is a medium-sized, internationally renowned manufacturer of connecting technology in the electrical engineering, electronics and heating fittings sectors. Products ranging from cable glands to industrial housings are shipped to customers worldwide. An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is used, as well as a warehouse management (WMS) system. In the past, depending on the area, the order information for goods, including all item information, was obtained via the in-house ERP system or via internal WMS solutions.

THE SYSTEM IS TAILORED TO THE COMPANY

Hummel's previous solution has been replaced by the complete integration of our Advantage Delivery dispatch software. Since only one interface is now used for the entire dispatch process, all processes are designed to be more transparent and are simpler and more streamlined overall. In future, the packing process requirements for the individual departments of Hummel will therefore be covered by one flexible system.

Interfaces to and from existing Hummel AG systems, to external transport service providers and to the existing dbh Advantage Customs system were implemented. The system reports missing information for shipping orders immediately. Additional processes have been automated, such as printing the transport service label (bar code label) on pre-configured printers, a real-time overview of the individual shipping orders and shipment tracking. Manual intervention is also still possible at any time. "This flexibility is very important to us," says Thomas Peissl, Head of Materials Management & Logistics at Hummel AG. "We have achieved our goal and our dispatch process is now much more effective thanks to the dbh systems and advice." The go-live was also a very positive experience: Thanks to the intuitive interface, dispatch employees were able to use the system with confidence right from the word go. "That was certainly one of the key success factors for the smooth conversion of the entire process from the very beginning," Peissl adds.

With the new system, Hummel has standardised the dispatch process across all the departments and areas affected, thereby minimising manual activities. Or, to put it another way: Mission accomplished. The dispatch process is simple, fast and effective.
