LOGIMAT 2016: USING PREFERENCES AND SECURING COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

At the upcoming LogiMAT (new Messe Stuttgart trade fair centre, 8–10 March), dbh Logistics IT AG (dbh) will be looking at everything to do with supplier's declarations, the origin of goods and preferences. There is a lot to consider in this tricky subject area — find out precisely what by visiting the dbh stand in Hall 7, Stand 7C66.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TARIFF PREFERENCES

The EU has concluded bilateral agreements with some countries in which tariff preferences have been agreed upon. When importing goods into a country with which an agreement of this kind has been concluded, you may benefit from reduced or nil rates of duty. To secure this preferential treatment, the goods must meet the rules of origin defined in the agreement.

In order to use these preferences as a competitive advantage, many companies therefore issue supplier's declarations within the EU as a preference document. The only important thing to bear in mind is: If a supplier's declaration has been incorrectly issued, there may be consequences under tax, criminal or civil law.

AVOIDING ISSUANCE ERRORS

Often the expert knowledge needed to complete the document correctly is lacking — this is also because there is no obligation to issue supplier's declarations. Software can help companies to avoid serious issuance errors. Advantage Preference from dbh is one such application. But this is not all that the software can do!

For instance, Advantage Preference helps the purchasing department to request supplier's declarations and to manage them in a straightforward manner, e.g. via a web portal. The software helps the sales department in turn to easily determine preferential origins of goods, calculate preferences correctly and thereby issue the company's own supplier's declarations without any errors.
