portos Rail was developed for companies that process railway transports and maintain communication with railway transport companies, i.e. port terminals, freight centres, freight forwarders or large industrial railway stations. In addition to the specific aspects of container transport, information regarding transports of bulk consumer goods, general cargo and vehicles is also displayed.

portos Rail software provides support for the management of transports through scheduling of the goods, trains and loading equipment (platforms, trucks, cranes etc.). portos Rail enables reliable and convenient order management and communication between all parties involved. The system performs complete invoicing for all services provided (external and internal).

Cargo management encompasses the handling orders for all incoming and outgoing goods. The order data is transferred via an interface or entered directly during operation.

Incoming and outgoing trains are reported by the railway transport company via the interfaces contained within the program. The container, the load and the carrying train can be reported together, otherwise containers are assigned to a train or wagon by the scheduler. The scheduler uses the system to check the permissions required to load the cargo by the customer and customs, as well as the availability of the goods to be loaded in the storage space or block. Each incoming container is assigned with a planned duration of stay at the transshipment facility.

The trains entering the presentation area are reported to track management. After the loading lists from cargo management are transferred to cargo scheduling, the loading units are assigned to the transport units. Transshipment is performed on the basis of work specifications and release lists. A notification is sent promptly after the loading process is complete. Finished trains are dispatched and their load is checked to ensure this is correct. It is preferable for error messages and error handling to be supported through the use of mobile recording devices. The prepared trains are reported as ready for departure.

The track management feature performs slot management for the platforms and schedules loading equipment and employee shifts. The assignment of operating resources is displayed via an electronic planning board. Both information for the coming weeks and information from the past is displayed.

The trains entering the presentation area are reported to track scheduling, where they are allocated to the loading platforms. Trains that are ready for departure are directed to the departure platform. A notification is then sent to the railway transport company. The occupancy status of the tracks and the processing status of the trains are displayed to the schedulers, who then make the required interventions directly.

An automatic interface to the storage space system ensures that the containers to be dispatched are ready for transport and that received containers can be stored in the block when they reach their destination. If there is no storage space system from a third-party provider in place, integrated basic functions can be used.

In large companies, incoming and outgoing containers are reported to portos Rail via an interface. If no third-party systems are in place, the dispatch notification and the entry notification are performed using the basic functions. These notifications can be received in paper form (notification form etc.), with mobile recognition devices, or via portos Videogate.

portos Rail contains an invoicing program for convenient billing of orders. In this program, a final check of the services rendered is performed and these are then released for invoicing. A monitoring program ensures that no services go uncharged. Corrections can be made to the released services, and therefore the invoice, at any time.

portos Rail supports individual and collective invoices for fixed monthly deadlines. Invoices can also be sent electronically. The outgoing invoices file and the corresponding invoices are sent to the financial accounting system via an interface.

The comprehensive reporting system automatically provides reports for all parties involved. In addition to the standard evaluations provided, individual reports can easily be created through data transfer to MS Excel.

For larger customers, the software can be used alongside existing software. This relates in particular to the linking of storage spaces with containers and other storage material, as well as the linking of access routes and gates.

Therefore, before portos Rail is used, an analysis should be performed in order to determine how the workflows in the area between portos Rail and the third-party software should be organised. This analysis should also take into account the required interfaces.

If there is no third-party software, this can either be acquired by dbh or the standard functions will be used.
