Classification: The basis of all customs transactions

16. May 2014 | Compliance & Risk Management, Tariff classification

If you want to import or export goods, you can’t avoid being included in the customs tariff. However, the road to this legal provision is arduous and time-consuming. The new software module Classification of dbh Logistics IT AG (dbh) facilitates this process and enables a fast and legally compliant classification of goods.

Correct classification prevents tax evasion

Tariffing is a crucial aspect of the export or import ation of goods. Prohibitions and restrictions imposed are indicated by the goods number, customs duties can be determined and thus tax evasion can be prevented.

In the export area, the description of goods is encrypted by an eight-digit product number – at the time of importing it is even eleven digits. In addition, the current tariff comprises 21 sections, 97 chapters and over 5,000 subheadings. The purpose and the quality of the goods are encrypted in the goods number. This fact alone of the detailed description of the goods shows the difficulty companies face in assigning the correct product number.

The new dbh software module Classification simplifies the process of classifying goods. The application is subordinated to the Compliance & Risk Management Software “Advantage Compliance” and can be easily integrated into existing logistics processes. The intelligent classification support is used for the convenient determination of product numbers. Existing article data can be read in via interface and assigned directly by the user. The path to a legally compliant product classification is facilitated and shortened by the dbh module.
