LogiMAT 2016: Managing the shipping process in a playful way

10. Feb 2016 | Exhibition, Logimat

Today’s shipping process is characterized by slow processes, susceptibility to errors and a lot of work. at LogiMAT (Neue Messe Stuttgart, March 8-10, Hall 7/Booth 7C66), dbh Logistics IT AG (dbh) will be showing interested booth guests a flexible solution for a simple and efficient shipping process. According to the motto: more service, faster processes, fewer errors. Hummel AG is already convinced. With the implementation of Advantage Delivery, shipping processing there became a breeze.

ADVANTAGE DELIVERY INCREASES PRODUCTIVITY OF SHIPPING PROCESSING AT HUMMEL AG

Hummel now has it too: Via tracking & tracing, customers can track the status of their order at any time from the transfer of data to the delivery of the goods. The web interface, designed in the bumblebee design, also provides the recipient with additional information and documents, such as packing lists, etc.

Hummel, a medium-sized company, is an internationally renowned manufacturer of connection technology in the electrical engineering, electronics and heating fittings segments. Products from cable glands to industrial enclosures are shipped to customers worldwide. In addition to an enterprise resource planning (ERP), a warehouse management system (WMS) is also used. Previously, the order data of the goods, including all item information, was picked via the own ERP system or picked via the company’s internal WMS solutions.

THE SYSTEM ADAPTS TO THE COMPANY

Hummel’s previous solution has been replaced by a complete integration of our Advantage Delivery shipping software. Since only one interface is now used for the entire shipping process, all processes are made more transparent and simplified and streamlined in their entirety. The packaging process requirements of the individual sub-areas of Hummel AG will thus be flexibly covered by a system in the future.

Interfaces to and from the existing systems of Hummel AG, to external transport service providers as well as to the already existing dbh customs system Advantage Customs were implemented. The system reports missing information on the shipping order immediately. Other processes were automated, such as printing the transport service provider labels (barcode labels) on preconfigured printers, a real-time overview of the individual shipping orders and tracking shipments. At the same time, manual intervention is still possible at any time. “This flexibility is very important to us,” says Thomas Peissl, Head of Materials Management & Logistics at Hummel AG. “We have achieved our goal and, thanks to the dbh systems and consulting, have become significantly more effective in shipping processing.” The Go-Live was also very positive: due to the intuitive mask guidance, the shipping staff had no fear of contact with the system from the very beginning. “This was certainly one of the key success factors for a trouble-free changeover of the entire shipping process from the very first minute,” Peissl concludes.

With the new system, Hummel has unified the shipping process in all departments and areas involved, thus minimizing manual activities. In other words, goal achieved. Shipping is easy, fast and effective.
